Do your favorite characters in books, video games, movies, or TV shows wield swords? Have you ever wanted to wield one yourself? Do you identify as a woman? Then this Charlotte, NC event is for you!!
In this introductory workshop you will learn the fundamentals of wielding a traditional Longsword, taught by coaches and senior students from Swordwind Historical Swordsmanship.
All gear will be provided! All you need to do is wear comfortable clothes that allow for a free range of movement (i.e.: gym/workout clothes, or loose-fitting jeans. So long as you can move easily and feel comfortable it's A-OK with us!). A bottle of water is recommended, but we also have water fountains at the gym for those that need it.
Please plan to arrive 10 minutes before the start of class to allow time for finding the meeting location and signing a liability waiver
What will this workshop cover? We will start the class with a short warm-up followed by an introduction game. Then we will go over sword safety and how to hold and grip a sword properly before moving into learning a fun, flashy, historically accurate, and deadly (if we weren't wearing safety gear) sequence of sword moves. At the end of class you'll show off what you've learned by striking one of our instructors (which will also be a great opportunity for videos or photos).
We will have breaks for water and stretching out sore muscles throughout the course. There will be time after class to discuss Historical Martial Arts and other questions you may have!
This event is for people of all shapes, sizes, and fitness levels. German longswords weigh 3 lbs. So long as you're fit enough to lift 3 lbs you're fit enough to begin sword training.
Children 12 and up are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.
