Beginner Sewing Machine Workshop: Make a Bow from a Shirt

What to expect

Give a second life to a shirt while learning the basics of using a sewing machine.

In this relaxed beginner workshop, you'll transform a rescued shirt into a bold statement bow. Along the way you'll learn essential sewing machine skills.

This is a quick and satisfying first sewing project — perfect if you've always wanted to try using a sewing machine but didn’t know where to start.

You'll leave with a handmade bow that can be used as a home decoration, door decoration, seasonal decoration (spring, summer, birthdays, baby shower, wedding, hen do, Christmas, Easter, Mother's day, etc).

• Guided instruction and sewing machine demonstrations
• Use of sewing machines and all materials
• A selection of rescued shirts to work from

• Bring a shirt you'd like to transform
• Optional: if you'd rather bring and use your own sewing machine, please let us know

• Complete beginners
• Anyone curious about upcycling clothing
• Those interested in sustainable fashion, creative reuse and upcycling

This workshop requires at least 3 guests to run. If the minimum number isn’t reached, we’ll notify you and offer a refund or reschedule.

Info: Before we start you'll be offered some refreshments (as a special spring treat for this session we'll be serving herb tea based on flowers, but regular black, green and peppermint tea options will also be available).

Info: You'll select a shirt and thread.

Info: You'll cut your shirt into parts for the bow.

Info: You'll construct the bow.

Info: We'll use offcuts, cushion fillings and toy stuffing to give your bow a shape.

Info: You'll take home you're beautiful bow!
