o Are you new to Open Water Swimming & would like to get some hands-on instruction, in a safe environment?
o Do you have your 1st triathlon or Open Water Swim Race scheduled & have some concerns?
o Our OWS Clinics will help overcome your fears/concerns & teach you to enjoy our weekly Long Branch Ocean Swims or even one of the many ocean mile swim races this summer!
WHEN: Saturday – July 4 (645am)
We will be starting promptly at 645am & wrapping up by 745am, so please plan to arrive before 645am. There is also a group in the water before our session, so if you see other swimmers on the beach or in the water already, don’t think you’ve missed it. I will meet you at the lifeguard tower, by 645am.
COST:
o There sessions are provided as a courtesy for those new to ocean swimming, so they can join our regular groups.
o There is a suggested donation ($20) which covers cost of the equipment & lifeguards, staffing your session.
o There will be a labeled canister, located on the lifeguard tower where we meet, please contribute your cash $ there.
WHERE:
We'll be meeting on the beach, at the lifeguard tower, directly in front of Chelsea Avenue in Pier Village (Long Branch):

If using GPS…

Le Avenue Restaurant
23 Ocean Avenue
Long Branch, NJ 07740
*This is the closest specific mapped address & as a point of reference, the lifeguard tower we’re meeting at, is between the boardwalk gazebo & McLoone’s restaurants.

Metered parking is available in/around Pier Village (I STRONGLY recommend downloading the https://parkmobile.io/ if you intend to come frequently).
Parking is FREE until 10am & then hourly, after that.
MISC:
Items you'll want to be sure you bring…
o Notepad & pen
o Swimsuit
o Cap (If you have long hair)
o Goggles
o Wetsuit: The water temperature is on either side of 60F & wetsuits are STRONGLY encouraged!! If you’re wondering what the water temperature is, I will post an update on the Jersey Shore Masters Facebook & Instagram page(s) on the preceding afternoon/evening. If you do not have a suit & are in need (& haven’t already processed a rental), rentals are available via this link ($25): https://www.jsmswim.com/product/wetsuit-rental/31?cs=true&cst=custom
o If you’ve already processed a rental, there’s nothing else you need to do & you will receive a separate correspondence, the day before our session w/ pick-up instructions which will be located at the same address
o Towel
o Water
o Garbage Bag: I often suggest bringing a garbage bag to put your wet items in
INCLEMENT WEATHER:
o In the event of a cancellation, I will send out an e-mail, no later than 2-hours before our scheduled session (if the forecast looks very bad, I’ll aim to cancel as early as possible, ideally on the preceding day).
o As such, if there's any question about the weather/conditions, please check your e-mail BEFORE heading to our clinic.
If we do need to cancel, you’ll be given alternate ‘rain dates’.

ADDITIONAL ATTENDEES:
If you have any friends/training partners who would also like to attend, if we do have any remaining spaces, they can register by e-mailing me.

To summarize our session, there will be a component on the beach, where we will cover the basics of open water swimming (OWS), safety, equipment, strategy & answer ANY questions you have about OWS's. We will then head into the water to implement what we've discussed in the land component. There will be a rectangular course w/ buoys (totaling approximately 150 yards +/-), where we will practice these skills. I will be in the water with you, as well as two other certified lifeguards on boards….so one of us will never be more than a few seconds away from you.
