This class meets weekly in person at the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research in New York City. Enrollment will be capped at about 15 students. This class will be conducted in Yiddish and English.Instructor: Nachum Lerner
Who should take this course?
This course is appropriate for those who have completed Beginner III Yiddish or Beginner IV Yiddish (or equivalent coursework) and would like a review before enrolling in the next level.
What topics will this class cover?
In this class, students will continue to expand their conversational vocabulary and their use of verbs in the past, present, and future tenses. Students will continue to strengthen their competence in Yiddish conversation, reading and writing, as well as their familiarity with Yiddish culture and music. We will focus on poems, readings and songs, and review grammar already mentioned in class. Videos and recordings will supplement the class discussions.
Is knowledge of the Yiddish alphabet required?
Yes, knowledge of the Yiddish alphabet is required.
