Beginner Gelli Plate Printing Workshop (SEPTEMBER)

Curious about printmaking? Join mixed media artist Jackie Flanagan Pangelinan in her art studio for a hands-on introduction to Gelli plate monoprinting — a playful and accessible printmaking process that creates one-of-a-kind layered prints.
In this 2-hour workshop, participants will learn the basics of working with a Gelli plate, acrylic paint, and simple texture tools. We’ll explore how to create prints using found materials, stencils, and mark-making techniques, as well as how to build depth through layering.
This workshop is designed for beginners and encourages experimentation and creative discovery. Space is limited to give each participant attentive instruction. By the end of the session, participants will leave with a collection of unique prints that can be used for collage, art journals, cards, or future mixed media work.
The studio itself carries a sense of history, once the dining hall of a Washington, DC school building constructed in 1897, it is fun space that is perfect for creative exploration.
No prior printmaking experience required. All materials provided.
Participants will learn:
- Basic Gelli plate printing techniques
- How to create texture with everyday materials
- How to layer prints for depth and interest
- Tips for composition and color
Participants will leave with original monoprints, a reference sheet for future gelli printing fun, and a mat in which to display prints.
