Beginner Crochet Workshop at Wilka's Sports Bar

A beginner crochet class hosted at Wilka's Sports Bar — no experience necessary.

In two hours, you'll learn some foundations of crochet, at least 2 new stitches, and work on your next game day accessory — a wrist cuff, handmade by you. Whether you've never tried crochet or picked it up and couldn't quite get the hang of it, this class will help you with the basics so you can go on designing your world and start a new practice.

This class will be lead by Santara (aka a being who crochets), crochet designer and founder of [a being], a brand built on the idea that wearing what you make is an ultimate luxury.

What's included in the workshop: Two hours of hands-on guidance, a printed fingerless glove pattern to take home, and brief printed beginner's guide.

What to bring: One skein of worsted weight yarn in the colour of your choice and a 5.0 mm crochet hook (a more in-depth materials recommendation is below)

What you'll leave with: The beginner's guide, a pattern from the designer, and a finished wrist cuff. If you need to take your time and don't finish the cuff in class, you'll have what you need to finish up at home and start your next project.

To participate in this class, please bring a worsted weight yarn (also called medium or weight 4) and a 5.00 mm crochet hook. To start, Santara recommends visiting a Michaels store or ordering online for pickup— Michaels frequently has coupons and offers additional discounts in their free membership program. In total, materials should cost around $10.
Recommended yarns:
• Lion Brand Wool-Ease Solids ($6): This yarn is a wool-blend yarn; 80% acrylic and 20% wool. While the colour range is limited, it makes for beautiful wearable pieces and warm winter accessories. It is also machine washable and dryable. If you are allergic to wool or just need more colours to choose from, consider the other recommendations.

• Loops & Threads Impeccable ($5): This yarn is 100% acrylic. It has an expansive colour range while still being on the softer side of acrylic yarns. It is machine washable and dryable.

• Lion Brand Heartland ($6): This yarn is 100% acrylic. While made to look like wool yarns, it has a more expansive colour range than Wool-Ease Solids, making a highly wearable and stylable yarn. It is machine washable and dryable.
