Before the Last Octopus - Animation Workshop
About this Event
In the Mediterranean, the most overfished sea in the world, a group of international conservationists race to protect octopuses from illegal fishing, revealing a hidden world at sea and the power of collective action.
In Greece, the passionate team works alongside local fishermen, scientists, and authorities; hauling thousands of illegal traps from the sea and making what may be the last stand for octopuses in the region. With every life saved, a fragile hope remains.
In August, Penzance hosts the UK Premiere of documentary film 'Before the Last Octopus', which tells their story. Join us as we follow up the conversation to:
- Learn more about these amazing creatures and how they are becoming a regular visitor to Mounts Bay
- Delve into the Gardeners House Archive to look at the past fishing industry in Newlyn, how eco-systems are changing and what it could mean for the future
- Get creative and translate our thoughts and observations into story and simple animations.
No experience needed – we'll be joined by animation and illustration experts. So just bring your curiosity, your ideas and be ready to think differently about the future.
