Beer vs Tyranny (Bloomington Beer School)
Beer vs Tyranny: The Science and History Behind 250 Years of American Beer
What did the Founding Fathers actually drink, and why did it matter? We're bringing together science, history, and local beer for a night you won't want to miss.
Dr. Matt Bochman, assistant professor an chair of Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry at Indiana University and co-founder of Wild Pitch Yeast LLC, will walk us through historic beer recipes and the fermentation science behind them. From colonial-era brewing traditions to the yeast that made it all possible.
Aubrey Williams of the Daughters of the American Revolution will take us back to the tavern floors where the Revolution was born. Colonial drinking culture wasn't just a pastime. It was political, it was community, and it was essential to the movement that changed the world.
A specially curated flight will be available for purchase, featuring the Declaration of Fermentation beer collaboration with Bochman Lab and Heartwork, Bloomington Brewing Co., Upland, The Tap, and Towaki. This event is otherwise free to observe. Open seating (no preregistration required).
