Beekeeper for a Day

Spend the day with Astor Apiaries for a hands-on urban beekeeping experience led by Nick Hoefly, Certified Master Beekeeper and co-founder of Astor Apiaries. This experience is designed for curious adults, food lovers, nature lovers, and anyone who wants to see what it’s like to work inside a real honey bee colony.
The experience begins with a beekeeping class and safety briefing. You’ll learn what to expect around the hives, how to move safely near honey bees, and what we’ll be looking for during the inspection.
After the briefing, guests will suit up in protective beekeeping gear and head into the apiary for a guided Hive Dive. You’ll get an up-close look inside a working beehive as we look for brood, pollen, nectar, honey, the queen, and other signs of colony health. Guests will have the opportunity to hold frames full of bees and honey while thousand of bees fly around.
After the Hive Dive, we’ll take a break for lunch, provided by a local shop.
The experience continues with a honey class covering how honey is made, why honey varies by floral source and season, and what makes raw honey unique. We’ll finish with a guided honey tasting and food pairing.
Each attendee will leave with a honey flight, workbook, and group photo. A photographer will be on hand to document your experience.
