Join us at Redborne School in Ampthill for a fun, family friendly, buzzing day of beekeeping discovery!
The Honey Show and Festival is a fantastic way to support local beekeepers and producers, learn about honey bees, beekeeping, and helping pollinators thrive – perfect for all ages.
Whether you’re a seasoned beekeeper, or a curious newcomer, there’s something for everyone.
Live Bees!
You can experience live honey bees up close in an observation hive. This unique set up allows visitors to safely view bees at work, including the queen bee and her workers and learn about their fascinating world.
Discover beekeeping equipment and how it’s used, explore beehives and suit up like a real beekeeper.
Free Honey Tasting
Did you know that honey flavours vary from hive to hive, flower type and season? Well now’s your chance to taste a wide variety of different honeys from Bedfordshire Beekeepers. Visit our honey tasting and sales tables, sample the different honeys and see for yourselves. You might want to treat yourself to a jar or two of your favourite..
Hands on activities
Candle rolling – make your own beeswax candle
Apple pressing with Paul, making tasty fresh apple juice.
Free children’s crafts and honey bee temporary tattoos.
Meet the Beekeepers
Beekeepers love chatting about their favourite subject! Experienced Bedfordshire beekeepers will be on hand all day to answer your questions. They can also give advice on getting started with beekeeping, about Bedfordshire Beekeepers Association and training offered.
Enjoy fascinating talks including:
• ‘So you want to be a beekeeper’?
• ‘All about bees and how to make your garden bee-friendly’.
And for those budding and more seasoned beekeepers
• ‘Bee pheremones’ by Paul Verrier
• ‘Dead bees dont buzz!’ By Roger Patterson
• ‘A Taste of Honey' by Peter Lewis
Plus get an exclusive peek behind the usually closed doors of our honey show, where experts will be evaluating locally crafted honey and other hive products to national standards.
Delicious Food and Drink
When you get thirsty............... Wooden Hill Coffee is on hand providing tasty drinks including their own unique blends of delicious fair-trade roasted coffee, excellent tea by the Tea Division, rich hot chocolate, chai and other refreshments. Did you know that for every 100kg of coffee they sell they plant a tree at Marston Vale Forest Centre?
And when you feel peckish......... Pecoro Wood Fired Pizza will be providing their fabulous freshly baked pizzas made from quality ingredients – yum! All made on site in their traditional wood fired oven. There’s plenty of options to choose from including Margherita, Diavola - salami, vegetarian, Bergamo - red onion and goats cheese plus Reggio – gorgonzola, Nduja and spicy honey.
For those with a sweet tooth – and who of us don’t..............we have Willen Ice Cream joining us. Gorgeous hand crafted artisan ice cream with a impressive range of flavours including simply dairy, chocolate, mint choc chip, strawberry, passion fruit sorbet and a special guest flavour – ooo what could it be! You’ll be going back for seconds, or even thirds!
Come for the bees and the honey, stay for the food and drinks – it’s a perfect day out for nature lovers, families and anyone curious about the world of bees!
We look forward to you joining us on the day.
