Join WHYY for A Special Event Honoring the Legacy of Justice Thurgood MarshallCelebrating the life and legacy of one of America’s greatest legal minds - Justice Thurgood Marshall. The event will feature a screening selection from Becoming Thurgood: America’s Social Architect followed by a panel discussion on his legacy and its impact on the law, the courts and education.
Executive produced by Emmy Award-winner and Oscar nominee Stanley Nelson and Travis Mitchell, Senior Vice President of MPT, the film offers exclusive insights into landmark Supreme Court victories—including Brown v. Board of Education—and Marshall's historic appointment as the first African American U.S. Supreme Court Justice.
This event will be moderated by WHYY Studio 2 host Cherri Gregg, civil rights attorney and journalist, and include panelists Samantha Fitzpatrick, President of the Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia, Judge Kai Scott, and criminal defense attorney and community activist Michael Coard.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for a reception with the program beginning at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are free, registration required.
