Ever wondered what it actually takes to become a firefighter in Los Angeles?

Join Southern California Wildfire Response (SCWR), a community wildland fire department, for Becoming a Los Angeles Firefighter, an in-person recruitment meet and greet for people interested in serving their community as volunteer firefighters.

Attendees will get an inside look at SCWR, meet current firefighters, see department apparatus and equipment, and learn what life in the fire service is really like. Members of the department will discuss training, emergency response, department operations, expectations of firefighters, and the recruitment and selection process.

This is an opportunity to ask questions directly, learn what happens from application through training and field operations, and determine whether becoming an SCWR firefighter is right for you.

During the evening, attendees will have the opportunity to:

• Meet SCWR firefighters and department leadership
• See fire apparatus, protective equipment, tools, and operational gear
• Learn about firefighter training and qualifications
• Hear about emergency calls, deployments, patrols, and department operations
• Learn about the firefighter recruitment and selection process
• Ask questions about the commitment, expectations, and realities of serving as a volunteer firefighter

SCWR is a Los Angeles-area wildland and all-hazard fire department staffed by volunteer firefighters. Members train and respond to emergencies including vegetation fires, severe weather, flooding, evacuations, disasters, and other incidents affecting communities throughout the Los Angeles area.
