Rising Naarm/Melbourne-based dream folk singer & songwriter Bec Sykes (she/her) is embarking on the Pepperpot Magic Tour, a seven date East Coast headline run this July where she will be performing songs from her Australian Music Prize-nominated debut album Pepperpot Magic and previewing the new music she’s been creating since its release. Supports and special guests to be announced, and all shows will be Auslan Interpreted.
Lauded for her songwriting prowess, striking voice and captivating stage presence, the magnetism of Bec Sykes’ live performance is as palpable when performing stripped back on iconic Recital Centre stages as it is with her full band at much-loved sticky carpet venues. Her performances are grounded with a refinement and growth in confidence that mirrors the deeply personal evolution traced on her “beautifully intimate” (Atwood Magazine) debut album.
Sykes will be playing her first ever Anglesea show at GROW Cafe in duo mode with Ronan Nicholson on pedal steel guitar. An intimate matinee show, it will be a beautiful afternoon of music for all ages.
Released alongside lead single ‘Last to Know’ - which has since had more than 1.5 million streams on Spotify alone - Pepperpot Magic saw Sykes reclaim her power after leaving behind her Christian upbringing and a lonely relationship. Its arrangements are meticulous yet understated, with Sykes’ warm, honeyed vocals right up front and the band’s restrained arrangements subtly but powerfully building the world of each song. Spanning the minimalist to textural, they lay the foundation for Sykes' voice to work its spellbinding power.
Bec Sykes has been carving out her corner of the music landscape in so-called-Australia since her breathtaking debut single ‘Edithvale’ led to winning iconic Melbourne record label Pieater’s (Maple Glider, Big Scary) ‘Pie School’ competition and the Josh Pyke Partnership. She toured nationally with Josh Pyke and has since supported Sarah Blasko, Telenova, Jem Cassar-Daley, Mia Wray, Teenage Dads, Didirri and Katy Steele.
Very special guest TBA
