LIVE MUSIC FROM 1-6PM with:
Austin Scelzo and On The Trail
On the Trail is a modern acoustic band that explores everything from bluegrass to contemporary pop, from stunning instrumentals to beautiful traditional harmony songs. The group was founded through their love of bluegrass and the band the Punch Brothers. They have already gained recognition and praise for their exploration and strong execution of the challenging music, as well as for their new original music. Most recently, On the Trail had the honor of winning the 2022 Thomas Point Beach Band Competition after participating in 2021’s Telefunken Battle of the Bands at the Podunk BluegrassFestival.
Catskill Mountain String Band
Local musicians Brandon Whightsel, Andy Bingand Bruno Bruzzese sing bluegrass and old time country songs and perform fiddletunes and instrumental numbers on banjo, guitar, fiddle and dobro. Sometimes bass player Geoff Harden joins into make it a quartet.
As a trio or a quartet, this is a band that displays talent in several singing styles and on a variety of instruments. Bruno and Andy are multi-instrumentalists and add to the variety of the show by switching instruments to fit the style of each song. Bruno, Andy and Geoff have known each other and crossed musical paths in the Catskill area since the 1980s and are individually rooted in styles that compliment each other’s playing and make the band more than the sum of its parts.
Grass Valley Band
Grass Valley is an all-new group of some of the Hudson Valley’s premier bluegrass musicians. Formed in early 2024, lead guitarist and vocalist David Chernack convened Grass Valley to showcase some of the region’s best vocalists and instrumentalists to form a group that embodies the Hudson Valley’s bluegrass sound. Grass Valley leans on its group’s technical mastery to perform modern bluegrass hits by Alison Krauss, Dan Tyminski, and Billy Strings, while also bringing sharp and dynamic instrumental prowess to the stage with classic fiddle tunes. Grass Valley features Joan Harrison on banjo(Too Blue), Alison Krayer on mandolin, Chelsea Needham on fiddle (StrawberryWine, the Strawberry Hill Fiddlers), and Jim Sullivan on bass (New Breaks, TheNew Drifters).
All three bands are active in the bluegrass community, playing festivals, cultivating the roots music tradition of the Catskills, and helping to grow its branches. The Bearsville Mini-Fest comes just six weeks before the world famous Grey Fox Festival one hour north. Come and wet your whistle on our Catskills Roots!
