About this Event
In this community beading project, students will learn about local ecosystems, specifically looking at keystone and invasive species in the Great Lakes. Students will be able to design and bead their fish and take it home.
Instructor Aidelen Montoya is a Filipino-American artist in the art, science and craft intersection rediscovering her cultural traditions of craft beading. Researching the connections between environmental and social justice, much of her work is rooted in a foundation of data in these fields to produce alternate visual narratives. Using waste material as her canvas like styrofoam from consumer packages, fallen branches, and industrial scrapes, Aidelen gives these items new life and keeps them from a landfill for generations.
