In this two-part workshop on November 2nd and 3rd, participants will be working alongside Margaret Firlotte and creating their own versions of her popular cowboy boot earrings. They will receive all the materials necessary to replicate their own versions; the only difference, however, is that participants will be working with brown wool rather than home tan hide, which is what Margaret uses. They will still be able to achieve the similar look of her cowboy boots even while using the wool. Beadwork experience is not necessary for this workshop, however if you are already familiar with beading this may be more of a beading circle where we share stories, experiences and knowledge.
All materials will be provided. Space is limited.
Please note that the U-shaped studs pictured above are no longer available. Participants will be provided with either sterling silver or gold-plated hook bases for their earrings.
Skill Level:
Some sewing background is preferred, but not necessary. The workshop is suitable for beginners to advanced makers.
About the Instructor:
Margaret Firlotte is a Michif artist living in Winnipeg, located on Treaty 1 territory. Her Métis family ties are to the Red River Valley and her family names are Gaudry and Laferty. She has been practicing beadwork since the spring of 2018, and it was her mother Nancy Gouliquer who taught her. Although she considers herself still a beadwork novice, she recognizes that she’s been practicing various art forms since a young age. Beadwork is her preferred medium to work with as it connects her to her Métis culture, to the land and allows her to work closely with her mom and the community.
