As social media takes an ever more prominent role in our lives, we take a look at how social media interacts with the workplace and what employers need to think about.

What’s covered?

1.   The legal side of social media and employees.

We will start with a look at the legal issues that need to be considered when employees use social media. This will include what policies employers should have in place to protect from misuse of social media by employees and what can be done by an employer if employees misuse social media. You will not be blinded with legal jargon, we will just focus on what you need to know in a simple and easy to understand way.

2.   The welfare side of social media for employees.

We will then focus on how employers can improve mental health, boost retention rates and be more productive. You will learn how your employees can have better mental health, enjoy greater job satisfaction, and be more productive – if they can resist their smartphones.

Research has shown employees spend an average of two hours every workday using their phones for personal activity.

Not only are they wasting company time, they are also damaging their mental health and effectiveness as they continually switch between tasks.

In Be More Colin (named after a former BBC colleague who cracked technology), delegates will be inspired to change their relationship with their mobile phones forever.

In one company alone, 60% of employees reported increased job satisfaction after putting Be More Colin into action.

3.   There will be an opportunity to network with other HR professionals.

Who will be speaking at the event?

Rob Tice, Director at Precept: Rob has over 20 years’ experience as an Employment Law and HR Lawyer. He has spoken at numerous events including with ACAS and CIPD.

Mark Saxby – Director at Status Social: Former BBC and ITV journalist, Mark created one of the UK’s first specialist social media consultancies nearly 15 years ago and has gone on to help his clients generate more than £20m in sales through social media.

However, Mark recognises that the negative side of social media also rips apart families and damages enterprise, so he created two ventures – the Positive Social charity which helps schoolchildren make better decisions about social media, and Be More Colin, which encourages better mental health and greater productivity through us spending less time on smartphones and social media.
