About this Event
This field course will occur in two sessions : Sept. 14 and Sept. 21 10am-12pm.
9/14: Choosing the Right Plant : Come and Get It!
If you want to attract birds to your home, you have to provide what they need. How can you do that? No matter what your circumstance - big yard, patio or balcony - you can make sure birds have the basics. Delve into the nuts and bolts of gardening for birds, be they resident or migrant. We'll meet at Circle Forest (3301 E Palmer St, Detroit, MI 48211), to take a look at some bird habitats and get ideas about what you can incorporate in your own yard.
9/21 Choosing the Right Place: Making It Happen.
Bring along your site details - basic sketch of your yard and where you want to plant, light/water/sun conditions, and what birds you are most interested in providing for - and we'll sit down and help your design your bird oasis. We'll also provide plenty of resources for support and ideas for sources of plant material.
The field course is scheduled on the following dates, all Sundays.
Leader: Michelle Serreyn is an environmental educator and life-long nature nerd. Her former backyard in Roseville was designed with habitat in mind and attracted over 70 different species of birds, especially migrants, including woodcock, many species of warblers and sparrows, and even a pair of scarlet tanagers! She currently works for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources at the Outdoor Adventure Center.
The course is limited to 15 participants.
