Our April program will have you picturing elaborate stories in your mind. Dubbed “Contrasts” due to its confluence of styles, this afternoon will be devoted to your own imagination.

We begin with Rebecca Clarke’s The Three Pieces for two violins and piano. Full of rhapsodic melodies  and gentle harmonies, this piece will immediately have your mind drifting. Katerina Souponetsky’s impassioned Tides of Solitude for violin, bassoon, cello, and piano will take the stage next with a much more modern tale. Full of persistent melodies, improvisatory motion and intense colors, this work will take you on a journey.

After intermission, we will hear from Dororthy Howell with her Air, Variations and Finale for oboe, strings and piano, taking our adventure to a more modern place. Our final adventure will bring us to Hungary where you will hear Hungarian and Romanian dance melodies interlaced in a 20th century fabric. Bela Bartok’s iconic Contrasts for violin, clarinet and piano blends his rigorous classical and Hungarian/Romanian folk roots with American Jazz, paying a direct homage to his friend and co-commissioner, Benny Goodman.

Join us for a post-concert reception and enjoy our signature cocktail, Bartok's Tea at our cash bar.
