In this class, you will create a woven basket using natural, processed, sustainable materials, including repurposed and recycled twines, raffia, and yarns, allowing for decorative upcycling. Leave with learning a range of weaving and gentle basketry and weaving skills that can be applied to your basket and to future projects. We'll be using a blend of traditional and contemporary weaving basketry techniques. The materials you select will make your basket functional & truly unique. The class is presented in an easy-to-follow format, so totally suitable for beginners to have a go. Children under 10 will need an adult with them to assist with the activity.Date: Wednesday, April 15th 2026
Time: 10:00am – 12:00pm
What to bring:
- Water bottle/snack
- Passion for sustainability
- Wear comfortable "art" clothes/carry an apron
Suitable Age Group:
Reccomended for children 5+ accompanied by an adult. Children 10 and under will need and adults assitance with the activity.

-$15 kids
- $10 adults (adults to accompany children)
– Concession tickets available (for concession card holders and other eligible categories)
Parents/accompanying adults must buy adult tickets. Please note that registrations are essential for everyone attending.

About the Presenter:
Leisa Antonio-Hearps, the heart and soul behind Healing India Creative Arts, established in 2006 in Perth WA, is committed to sustainable artistry, contemporary creativity, and respectfully encompassing traditional Indian-inspired influences across her creative art practice. Leisa enjoys facilitating multidisciplinary creative art workshops in our local community and she has been awarded Local community art awards for her designs in Basketry, Glass art, and Jewellery. With a rich background in fostering community through her studies in Social sciences combined with professional development in dressmaking, and art, she always offers an inviting inclusive space for all to explore their artistic abilities while emphasizing the importance of environmental care.
This event is presented as part of the 2026 WA Tree Festival, a month-long celebration of trees, biodiversity and community connection across Western Australia, from 11 April – 10 May 2026
