Organized by the Liszt Institute New York, the New York Premiere of the movie Baska is Speaking Hungarian will take place on September 25, 2024 from 7PM at the Museum of the Moving Image.SYNOPSIS
Baska Speaks Hungarian (2023, 45 minutes)
The film Baska is Speaking Hungarian portrays the childhood of artist József Baska and his family's harrowing escape from Rozsnyó to Hungary on horseback in a single night, fleeing deportation to the Sudetenland in January 1947.
However, the film transcends the personal trauma of a single family, serving as a tribute to the thousands of Hungarians who were deported from Czechoslovakia. It poignantly explores the question: Can art heal the wounds of transgenerational trauma?
Following the screening an exciting panel-discussion will take place with the participation of Director Barbara Baska, Producer Attila Csáky, moderated by Literateuse Anna Juhász.
The event is free of charge but registration is required.
The movie is in Hungarian with English subtitles.
Please, note that the panel discussion will be conducted in Hungarian.
