The orchestra’s 95th season opens with Brahms’ rousing Academic Festival Overture – a potpourri of joyful student tunes, brimming with youthful exuberance.
This is followed by a performance of Glazunov’s dazzling, virtuosic Violin Concerto, performed by brilliant teenage violin prodigy, Aki Blendis – a name to look out for in the future.
The programme ends with Brahms’ dramatic and colossal First Symphony. Truly an undisputed romantic orchestral masterpiece.
