Haven Shared Workspace
Learn the fundamentals of SketchUp, a powerful and accessible 3D modeling tool widely used in architecture, design, and construction. This hands-on, beginner-friendly course is ideal for anyone new to SketchUp who wants to create clear, accurate 3D models. Over four weeks, participants will learn essential tools and workflows, including drawing and editing shapes, navigating 3D space, applying materials, creating scenes, and preparing basic models for presentation.
Open to all and perfect for homeowners, tradespeople, designers, and creative professionals looking to visualize ideas, improve communication, or build foundational digital design skills—no prior 3D modeling experience required.
Meet the Instructor
Joseph Schott is an architect and educator with over 30 years of experience teaching and leading design-based learning initiatives. He has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Illinois–Chicago and as a design instructor at Clemson University’s School of Architecture, including teaching abroad at Clemson’s Genova, Italy campus.
Joseph has designed and led experiential learning projects in schools, libraries, and community programs nationwide, including the creation of the Westport Library’s Makerspace, where he served as the Library’s first Maker-in-Residence. His exhibitions and public workshops—such as Imaginate, Iterate, Re-iterate, and Studies in Architecture—reflect his commitment to hands-on learning, creative exploration, and accessible design education.

Participants must bring their own device and have a subscription to SketchUp in order to participate. Please arrive early if you need assistance setting up the free trial.
