BASIC | Live in the Divine

BASIC isn’t interested in staying inside the lines.
Featuring guitarist Chris Forsyth, percussionist and electronic sound sculptor Mikel Patrick Avery, and Douglas McCombs (Tortoise), the trio builds hypnotic, groove-driven music that blurs the boundaries between psychedelic rock, jazz, dub, electronics, and fearless improvisation. Their performances unfold in real time, creating immersive sonic landscapes that are as mesmerizing as they are unpredictable.
Fresh off the release of their acclaimed new album Basic, recorded largely live at Chicago’s legendary Electrical Audio, the band arrives at De la Luz with the chemistry only years of touring together can create. Pitchfork praised the trio’s “hypnotic, groove-rooted identity all its own,” and that’s exactly what you’ll experience: music that rewards deep listening while keeping your body moving.
If you’re drawn to adventurous music that defies genre, this is a rare opportunity to catch three of today’s most inventive musicians in an intimate setting.
