Workshop Description:
Great improv starts with a believable world. In this workshop, we’ll focus on creating a strong base reality by clearly establishing the who, what, and where of every scene. Rather than rushing to jokes or unusual choices, you’ll learn how committing to relationships, environments, and shared activities creates a foundation that makes every moment more engaging.

Through focused exercises and scene work, we’ll practice making specific choices, staying grounded, and fully inhabiting the reality we’ve created together. The result is scenes that feel authentic, connected, and easier for both improvisers and audiences to invest in—because when the world is real, the comedy has somewhere meaningful to grow.

Whether you’re new to improv or looking to strengthen your fundamentals, this workshop will help you build scenes that are clear, committed, and unforgettable.
Prerequisites: Recommended for those who have completed Fundamentals of Improv Level 2 at Highwire Improv, or equivalent training at another theater!
About your facilitator:
Hi, I’m Lyle Grossi (he/him)! I’m currently a part of the Baltimore Improv Group Conservatory program, and I love bringing silliness, playfulness, and a sense of discovery into every scene. As a facilitator, one of my favorite things is helping improvisers find their own playful selves and discover what makes improv fun for them. Offstage, I’m a teacher with Baltimore City Public Schools, so teaching is a huge part of who I am—but I also believe the best teaching happens when I’m learning right alongside everyone else. Let’s play, get a little silly, and see what we discover together!

The Highwire Center is Highwire Improv's home base in the Highlandtown neighborhood of Baltimore! Part of Highlandtown Main Street and the Highlandtown Arts District, The Highwire Center is home to classes, free workshops, shows, community events, corporate training, and more! The Highwire Center is accessible, with ramp access available, an ADA restroom, and flat transit throughout the space.
