🌟 February BAS Meeting: Special Guest Speaker! 🌟We’re thrilled to welcome a very special guest, Dan Zielinski, Director of the Jenks Planetarium, to our February meeting! Dan will captivate us with his fascinating presentation, “The Copernicus Method.”
This meeting will be held in the Bartlesville, OK, Tri-County Tech Cherokee/Delaware Room.
What’s in store?
Nicolaus Copernicus (1473–1543) is famous for his groundbreaking book 'On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres', where he challenged the long-held belief that Earth was the center of the universe. But did you know his heliocentric model, known as the Copernicus Method, also made it possible to create the first scale model of the entire known solar system using the Earth's orbital radius as a reference?
Most people assume the math and observations behind this are highly advanced, but Dan will show you how anyone can calculate the distances of the planets from the Sun using just basic math. His engaging talk blends astronomy's rich history with practical techniques, making the wonders of the cosmos both accessible and inspiring.
Whether you're a seasoned stargazer or just starting to explore the night sky, this is a presentation you won’t want to miss!
Mark your calendars—see you there!
