About this Event

The EIGHTH Annual Charity Quiz/Raffle/Auction celebrating World Down's Syndrome Day

BARRY'S DOWNRIGHT QUIZ, the not very serious pub quiz, raising money for Down's syndrome education charity Downright Excellent, is back for a EIGHTH year running!

And we return to our spiritual home, the iconic Walthamstow Trades Hall!

Tickets are £10 per person (plus booking fee). You can come as a team or join one when you get here. The tables sit five or six, but as it's all for charity (and knowledge may not help you!) I'm not strict on team sizes.
** If you can't make it but still want to support us, then you can text 'BDQ' followed by your donation amount (so BDQ10 to donate £10) to 70560. Texts will cost the donation amount plus one standard network rate message. **
As usual it will be a mix of easy, tricky and ridiculous questions and challenges, written and hosted by me, Barry Sykes, and again aiming to raise lots of money for Downright Excellent , the amazing charity for children with Down's syndrome, that supports our daughter Alice.

Featuring: Pop Culture! Trivia! Nonsense! Guesswork! Mime?
**AND WE ARE DELIGHTED TO CONFIRM THE RETURN OF OUR EXCLUSIVE TASKMASTER ROUND, DEVISED FOR US BY NONE OTHER THAN LITTLE ALEX HORNE!**
**AND HIS BAND 'THE HORNE SECTION' WILL BE MY HOUSE BAND FOR THE EVENING!**
PLUS:
* Our biggest ever LEGENDARY LOCAL LUXURIES RAFFLE, with very generous prizes from Walthamstow's finest food, drink, gift and nightlife specialists! *
* Our ASTONISHING AUCTION of some very special, highly valuable lots to push us over our fundraising target! Lots TBC.
* And of course, our usual prize for BEST THINKING CAP, so bring a favourite hat, crafted creation, or random object, to pop on your bonce, and you the audience will decide the winner!
"It's the quiz for people who don't normally like quizzes!"

N.B.

ACCESSIBILITY: Walthamstow Trades Hall has level access, the quiz is on the ground floor and there is a disabled toilet. To consider those with visual or hearing impairments, every question will be fully written on screen as well as spoken out loud. For any other requirements please do get in touch.

TRANSPORT: The Trades Hall is a 10 minute walk or 5 minute bus ride from Walthamstow Central Station. Parking is limited, there are a few spaces in the small Trades Hall car park or you might find a spot on the nearby residential streets but check signs for details.

FOOD: There are only bar snacks at the Trades Hall, but you are very welcome to bring takeaways in. Yard Sale Pizza are just opposite and offer a 10% discount for Quizzers!
KIDS: The Trades Hall are quite relaxed about having kids there in the evenings. I'd just ask that you consider if yours might get bored by a ridiculous quiz, a large raffle, and various prize givings, if so please bring enough things to to distract them or maybe best to leave them at home.

SCHEDULE: Doors are open from 6.30, to start the Quiz promptly at 7.30, half time break around 8.30 then done by 9.30, followed by the Auction and Raffle. Should be all finished by 10.30pm, but we have music til 11pm.

THINKING CAPS: As usual there will be a prize for best improvised hat, headwear, bespoke millinery or random thing balanced on your bonce. Make one at home or improvise on the night.

We are raising money for Downright Excellent who work with children with Down's syndrome, their families and their schools, combining fun learning activities, training, specialist therapies, peer support and socialising to form a circle of support around each child and family to support, empower and inspire. Charity No. 1120863.

Barry Sykes is an artist who's daughter Alice has been going to Downright Excellent since she was a few months old. She is now doing well in a mainstream school thanks in no small part to the support and expertise Downright Excellent have offered her and her family.

If you know others who might be interested then please share these posts on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter with the hashtag #BDQ2026

See you there!

Thanks so much!

Barry x!
