About this Event

P LEASE NOTE THAT THE DURATION OF THIS EVENT SHOWN ABOVE IS ONLY APPROXIMATE AND CANNOT BE GUARANTEED; IT WILL DEPEND ON FACTORS SUCH AS THE WEATHER AND THE WALKING PACE OF THE GROUP.

Join this leisurely ramble with a Birmingham Ramblers group leader and enjoy social walking with our friendly members.

It is very helpful for the walk leader to have prior knowledge of numbers that will be on this walk. We ask you to complete this very brief form to help with our planning of the walk to ensure that we can safely accommodate all who wish to join us. You will receive an automatic acknowledgement when you submit this form, and also a reminder of the details 2 days before the walk.

Walk leader: Harry Eyles

Meeting arrangements:

PUBLIC TRANSPORT - Meet at 10.15 am at bus stop PQ8, Priory Queensway nr. Old Square (adjacent to Hobgoblins Music Shop, B4 7LA), and take the 10.25 am bus no. 936. (The walk leader will join you at Kingstanding Circle on route). Alight at Beacon Crossroads (nearest postcode B43 7UG) approx. 10.50 am. Return buses 33, 936 or 937.

BY CAR (not recommended as this is a linear walk) - There are 2 car parks at Barr Beacon. Do NOT use the one on the junction of Beacon Road & Bridle Lane, but the one further along Beacon Road fairly close to 'Beacon Crossroads' (where we alight from the bus) the 936 should arrive there at app. 10.50 am. The Leader will meet drivers at the car park at about 11.00 am. The linear walk ends at the leader’s house in Esher Road, where we can all have our picnics.

After the walk the leader will walk with the group around the corner for all to get a 33 bus back, if we have just missed one we can walk to 'The Circle' where folks have the choice of 2 fast buses to the City Centre 936 & 937. However, the leader will direct car drivers to the other side near the Kingstanding Library where they can catch a 936 (2 per hour) in the opposite direction back to the Beacon Crossroads to collect cars.

Walk Description:

A linear 4-mile walk covering Barr Beacon, (Barr Beacon is a geological site of exceptional importance due to its location next to one of the great geological faults that runs through the Black Country), The Quarry (Geopark Site) & Doebank Park (The site is a mixture of woodland and leisure areas. There are hard paths all around the park, as well as nature trails). The walk’s rest stop will be a picnic in Harry’s garden (hot drinks provided if required but please bring your own picnic!).

Expressions of Interest for this walk will close at 06.00 on Tuesday 17 March 2026. After this, please email [email protected] to enquire about any late availability for the walk.

===================================================================

If you later find that you are unable to join us it would be helpful if you let us know by sending an email to [email protected] - this will be passed on to the walk leader and will prevent any delay to the start of the walk should the leader be waiting for you. Please note that some walks have a waiting list so tickets are NOT TRANSFERABLE; if you are unable to join us then please cancel your place to free it up for someone who may be on the waiting list rather than passing it to someone else.

General Information

This is one of several walks and activities offered by the Birmingham Ramblers. If you have found this page through a web search or other means and would like to find out more about the group then please visit the Birmingham Ramblers web site; new members are always welcome.
