Barb Carbon’s first solo album, The Fighter (2019), is a quasi concept album that elevates and jerks you through the emotional highs and lows of falling in and out of love, struggling to remain creative in the face of turmoil and strained relationships, and maybe more than anything, battling - and eventually surrendering to and making peace with - the shadows that lurk within all of us. While much of the album artwork depicts a physical conflict, this record is ultimately about accepting that the flip side to shining brightly is knowing the darkest dark, and that we must embrace the eternal balancing act that is required to keep ourselves from plunging into the depths of darkness or floating so high that we are no longer grounded and we lose our authenticity. The balance bar that appears repeatedly throughout the record is finding hope - even in the darkest dark.
Now, Fighter Returns, and she’s rolling up with a rough and tumble crew of her favorite musical allies.
Danielle Howle is a critically acclaimed songwriter and live performer. She has toured with such diverse acts as Avett Brothers, Hootie and the Blowfish, and Indigo Girls, to name a few. With 16 albums on 7 indie labels, along with self-releases, Howle has performed and toured consistently for 30 years in many circles in the US and UK.
Josh Roberts is best known as the frontman/songwriter for the roots rock band Josh Roberts and the Hinges. After 20 years of touring with his band, Josh scores films, produces quality acts, plays guitar for unique artists, and is widely considered one of the most interesting genre-crossing artists in the South.
Pickled Holler, founded by husband and wife Matthew and Jessica Williams, is a family band that blends traditional sounds with jam nuances. Their music showcases rich harmonies, intricate dynamics, and heartfelt, life-affirming compositions. Deeply rooted in a tradition of fellowship, they often expand their lineup to include high-caliber musician friends and family. Every Pickled Holler performance is a unique, emotionally charged experience that celebrates the joy of playing together. Matt and J are blessed to have performed with so many musical heroes on the live stage throughout the years including Wynonna Judd, Mike Mills (R.E.M.), Kevn Kinney, Jim Lauderdale, Jeff Mosier, David Blackmon, John Mailander, Leftover Salmon, Jason Carter, Larry and Jenny Keel, Jimmy Herring, Oteil Burbridge and countless others.
With a voice steeped in spirit and southern grit, Joel Forlines blends rootsy, gospel soul with a revival-style energy and has built a reputation for turning songs into sermons and shows into shared experiences. “Where Soul Meets the Sacred” isn’t just a tagline.
Danimal Pinson is the secret weapon of the Chattanooga music scene. Barb first spotted him holding down the low end for regional troublemakers, Strung Like a Horse. These days, he performs solo and with his project, Danimal Planet. Blending psychedelic elements with intricate rhythms, his approach focuses on both the technical aspects and the deeper songwriting process that infuses his music with a contemplative quality.
Adam Poulin, sawing on the fiddle and playing it hot! An equally accomplished guitar player and classical violinist, Adam is one of the brightest talents in Athens and currently sits in with more bands than we can list. Adam’s high on-stage energy and musicianship makes him worth any admission price to watch and hear.
A master on the upright bass, Kerry Brooks is an active touring and recording member of several bands including - Amy Ray Band, RevelWood Mission, Danielle Howle, Jason Byrd, Early Ray, and Cravin Melon.
Mark Chester has played with some of the most brilliant musicians in the entire jam band scene. Songwriter and founder of the Asheville band Quickchester, Mark is now living his best life playing congas and guitar, singing, and exploring new musical avenues with a creative spirit.
Gaurav Malhotra, an accomplished percussionist and drummer hailing from India, boasts a remarkable performing and recording career spanning over 25 years. Melding his rich heritage and profound study of global rhythms, Gaurav has sculpted a drumming style that captivates audiences. Presently, he continues to collaborate with acclaimed artists such as Grant Green Jr., Benji Shanks and The Mosier Brothers Band.
