cult film night continues our 14th sensational season — — with our first ever Austrian film, ATTACK OF THE LEDERHOSEN ZOMBIES (2016)!
THE HILLS ARE ALIVE…
A group of young snowboarders is stuck in a remote mountain ski resort, where an all-night aprés-ski party soon turns into a hellish nightmare of zombie mayhem.
… but which kind of zombie movie are we in? Showcased at FrightFest in 2016 and a festival favourite the world over, Dominik Hartl’s ATTACK OF THE LEDERHOSEN ZOMBIES sees a scientific experiment to create environmentally friendly snow on the ski slopes of Europe (backed by Russian investors...) unleash an epidemic of vicious zombies and mutant wildlife.
Hartl’s sophomore feature is one of the rich outbreak of self-aware ‘zom-coms’, where the cast have to work out which kind of movie they’re in to survive. The film’s climate change tech is powered by an illicit hooch brewed in the ski resort’s chalet putting this firmly in STREET TRASH (1987) territory, and so it continues: things go wrong, the deers and the dead start to rise, and then fall apart… very messily!
With one of horror cinema’s goofiest titles, ATTACK OF THE LEDERHOSEN ZOMBIES is stupidly ambitious, over-delivering at every turn, from the opening helicopter drops to epic green screen getaways and ample animatronic monsters. The gore is plentiful and the film always entertains with its non-stop cocktail of shocks and laughs. Handily, it’s only 77 minutes long, meaning there will be plenty of drinking time to sample our in the bar before heading home!
Polite notice: We are showing ATTACK OF THE LEDERHOSEN ZOMBIES with partial English language subtitles from the best available digital source.
