Bandler Ching returns with their second album, Mercurial. In this new release, the band explores the world of electronica and dance music even further, while staying true to the improvisation that characterises their sound.
On Mercurial, they dive into the edges of industrial trap and explore the limits of their instruments in innovative ways. Ambroos De Schepper's saxophone transcends its traditional role to sound like a dynamic, shape-shifting instrument that evokes haunting melodies as well as otherworldly harmonies. Federico Pecoraro's bass sounds like ethereal ambient sounds floating through the mix, and Olivier Penu's drums form the rhythmic backbone with eclectic grooves that bring together genres such as trap, electronica and hip-hop.
Bandler Ching is known for their unique blend of diverse genres and textures, and with Mercurial they create a new instrumental language that eschews conventions and genre classifications. It is not an experiment with genres, but a bold step towards a new instrumental genre in the digital age.
Fans of experimental electronica like Ivy Lab, Weval and Sam Gendel will appreciate Mercurial-this album pushes the band into new musical territory and leaves the jazz category behind. Following their debut album Coaxial on Sdban Ultra, which was accompanied by a release show at Volta and numerous concerts across Belgium and the Netherlands, this new album sets the tone for their next chapter.
