WHAT –
LGBTea is a meet-up for LGBTQIA+ folk living in and around Banbury. We want this to be a safe space to enjoy a drink, chat and build community. Allies welcome. Pay-it-forward jar in operation - please don't be put off by cost.
WHERE –
Coffee #1 in Castle Quay Shopping Centre.
We aim for the big table next to the serving counter. Spot the pride flags and fidget toys to help you find us.
Nervous? Message us in advance and we’ll be happy to meet you and introduce you to other attendees.
WHEN -
2.00 to 4.00. Drop in or stay for the whole session.
WHO –
Part of the community, not sure, ally... everyone is welcome. We do however ask you to respect that this is a space for LGBTQIA+ people.
WHY?
Often queer events revolve around pubs and evenings and that doesn’t suit everyone. LGBTea hopes to offer a safe, inviting daytime space where folk can meet and chat.
GETTING HERE -
Castle Quay is a 5 minute walk from Banbury bus station and 10 from the railway station. Blue Badge spaces can be found in the Marketplace car park, directly outside Coffee #1, with plenty of other car parks around 5 minutes walk away.
ACCESSIBILITY -
Level access from the main door (inside Castle Quay), including to the accessible toilet and baby change.
Entry via the marketplace entrance requires 3 or 4 steps down to the order point. Two gender-neutral toilets are located up those steps.
There is space to move between tables and for mobility aids. There are various types of chairs available.
Coffee #1 offer plant-based milk alternatives and gluten free options.
I CAN’T AFFORD IT -
There is no pressure to buy a drink if you don’t want one and water is freely available. We have a pay-it-forward jar for those who would like a drink but have forgotten their cash or don’t have the funds. Please just take some money out and put the change back in. No questions, zero judgement.
POLICY
This is an inclusive space that welcomes people of all ages, genders, sexualities, races, religions, and identities.
We will not tolerate any kind of homophobia, transphobia, biphobia, acephobia, sexism, racism, ableism, fatphobia, femmephobia, interphobia, or non-consensual touching. Any behaviour of this sort will result in being asked to leave.
