Do you just want to jump into a cast? Or got a wild idea for an improv show?

Bring your show ideas or just bring your talent. Performers, showrunners, coaches, and musicians will work together to turn creative ideas into real shows.

Whether you come with big ideas, specific organizational skills, or just a desire to play, this fully facilitated session will help you connect with collaborators and get projects moving.

You'll leave with next steps lined up and a lot of support. Let’s connect to make new improv shows. Brainstorm lots of ideas on your own, in small groups, and with the whole crowd. Let’s talk about what shows need, who shows need, and next steps. By the end of this session, using simple fillable worksheets. You’ll strip down your big ideas into a simple, core version to start practicing right away.

Experienced show creators can talk with folks who are new to shows, giving everyone the support they need to succeed. Your facilitators will guide the entire room step by step, using simple fillable worksheets.

Together, we talk about what improv shows actually need to run, map out necessary roles and set you on the path to your first practice.

What to expect:

Brainstorm: Talk through your ideas in facilitated small group chats, then talk to the room about how you’d like to be involved and share your ideas.

Fill the roles: Map out what each show needs, from performers to coaches, accompanists, liaisons, and practice schedulers.

First steps and next steps: By the end of the session, you will have the tools to find the right people to create a project, assign key roles, and lock in a date on the calendar for your first rehearsal!

Come with your wildest musical concepts, or show up ready to jump into a cast and help out. No prior show running experience needed!

​What is Musical Improv?

​Musical improv is like a game where you and your friends make up songs right on the spot. You don’t need any prepared lyrics or music; instead, you create them as you go. It’s a mix of acting and singing, where everyone collaborates to create fun and surprising songs that fit the moment.

​It might sound tricky, but with the right mindset, simple guidelines, and a bit of practice, it’s easier than it looks. Think of it like creating a first draft—using patterns like adding a chorus and taking turns helps you shape your spontaneous songs.

​This event is free, and any donations will go towards Baltimore Musical Improv (a fiscally sponsored non-profit organization)!

​Who Should Attend?

​This workshop welcomes all writers, improvisers, songwriters, and musical theater enthusiasts—whether you’re into musical theater, pop, rock, folk, or any other genre. Just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to experiment with new song making games.

​Parking and Entry

There is a decent amount of free street parking around the meeting venue, as well as a free parking lot on the corner of St. Paul and 20th Street.

Someone from the group will wait outside at the entrance before (and a little bit after) the start of the event to welcome you in. If you are running late, you can message the group WhatsApp (details below) and someone can let you in. Alternatively, ring the doorbell!
