About this Event
Join us at The Athletic Arms aka The Diggers, Benromach Whisky Bar of the Year 2025, for a tasting of Ballindalloch single estate Speyside single malt scotch whisky with UK sales executive Tom Holmes.
Ballindalloch may be one of Scotland's newest distilleries, with production starting in 2014 and officially opened by the King & Queen in 2015, but owners the Macpherson-Grant family have a storied history in whisky. The family built Ballindalloch Castle on the same estate in 1546, but it wouldn't be until 1869 that they would enter the whisky business when Sir George Macpherson-Grant, the 3rd Baronet, leased a portion of the estate to John Smith to build Cragganmore distillery. Sir George was also an associate of Robert Hay (I'm sure our Rab is no relation!), who would build the world famous Glenfarclas distillery on the north side of the estate. The family would retain an interest in Cragganmore until 1965 when they sold their stake to giants the Distillers Company Limited (now Diageo). The vision for the new Ballindalloch Distillery came to be when the family was looking to renovate a derelict 19th-Century steadings.
Today, Ballindalloch claims to be Scotland's only single estate whisky, with the barley used grown on their farm and the draff fed to their Aberdeen Angus cattle, as well as the only whisky distilled at a castle (they even released a whisky called The Castle to coincide with novelist John Sutherland's book of the same name which, you guessed it, is set in a Scottish Highland castle).
It's always very exciting to try whiskies from a new distillery and explore where their whisky is going, if you'd like to join us on the journey make sure to grab yourself a ticket!
