Steamrail Victoria invites you to join our historical steam train rides from Ballarat to Yendon and return featuring two of our heritage steam locomotives as part of the Ballarat Heritage Festival. Alternatively travel on a one-way transfer from Newport to Ballarat or Ballarat to Newport via Gheringhap.

Ballarat Shuttles - Join us for our annual Ballarat Steam Train Rides on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th May 2026. Wave to the Ballarat locals and the lineside photographers while we take you back in time aboard The Vintage Train. Our shuttle trips run 16km to the tiny country town of Yendon. Stopping just on the other side of town, the train will then return you to Ballarat Station.
Newport to Ballarat Transfer - On Friday 22nd May 2026, board our steam train transfer for the journey from Newport to Ballarat via Gheringhap. Travel via the freight only line from Geelong to Ballarat, featuring the 440 metre Moorabool Viaduct, historic bluestone stations and bridges and changing landscapes from the golden plains to the heavily forested sections near Lal Lal.
A mid afternoon arrival allows passengers to return to Melbourne on one of many V/Line services from Ballarat Railway Station.
Ballarat to Newport Transfer - On Sunday 24th May 2026, board our evening steam train transfer for the journey to Melbourne. Our steam locomotives will storm Warrenheip Bank and head towards Newport via Gheringhap. Travel via the freight only line from Ballarat to Geelong, featuring the 440 metre Moorabool Viaduct, historic bluestone stations and bridges and changing landscapes from the golden plains to the heavily forested sections near Lal Lal.
Make use V/Line services between Southern Cross and Ballarat to connect with our one way steam hauled transfer train - Note due to infrastructure works coaches will replace V/Line trains between Melbourne and Ballarat & Newport and North Melbourne.
On Train Services - Our on-train facilities include a kiosk which stocks a range of light refreshments, snacks and hot and cold drinks. A licensed bar will also be operating, serving a range of beers, wines and spirits. A range of souvenirs will also be able for purchase from our on-board store.
