Discover a quieter, less-visited corner of Guadalupe River State Park as we explore the Bauer Unit, a scenic stretch often overlooked by most visitors. Most directions to this trailhead will take you across private property (to be expected), where you may need to open/close cattle gates along the way, so don’t be shocked when that happens!

The highlight of our 7-mile hike comes as we reach the Guadalupe River, where towering bald cypress trees line the crystal-clear waters. Here we’ll take some time to relax, dip our feet (or frolic a bit!), and soak in the tranquil riverside scenery before heading back to the trailhead.

After our hike, we’ll celebrate with pizza at Bergheim Pizza Company, and for those interested, there’s an optional excursion to the nearby Cave With No Name for a quick underground adventure.

Pro tip: Have a microfiber towel or Frog Tog in your pack to keep cool!
