Baking Yesteryear - Baking the 1900s

Tie on your aprons! We’re Baking Yesteryear! If you appreciate the precision and convenience of a detailed recipe, you can thank Fannie Merritt Farmer. An American recipe developer, cookbook author, and instructor at the Boston Cooking School, Farmer believed that standardized measurements, thorough instructions and a clear order of operations should be included in every recipe.
Beginning August 24, bakers can check out a copy of B. Dylan Hollis‘s Baking Yesteryear: The Best Recipes from the 1900s to the 1980s from the Circulation Desk; additional instructions will be included. You’ll need to supply the recipe ingredients, elbow grease and culinary curiosity. We will share our baked goods and compare notes on September 12.
Registration begins Monday, August 24 at 10:00 a.m. and is required for all attendees. On September 12 we’ll be sampling recipes from 1900; on October 10 we’ll be sampling recipes from 1910. Please register for only one session. Every person registered must prepare and share a baked good.
