The New Era Young Lords are a historic activist group dedicated to social justice, community empowerment, and cultural pride. For years, we have been returning to Puerto Rico, united as members of different chapters—Chicago, Florida, Connecticut, Ohio, and New York—to provide vital hurricane relief for our people. The New Era Young Lords is an example of the resistance and resilience of our people.

The Freedom Center is a designated community space located at The People's Church on Fridays from 6-8pm where people come together in the spirit of neighborhood engagement, political education, cultural celebration and community building. The Freedom Center upholds the inherent dignity of every human being.

Our mission is clear: Rebuild, support, and give back to the communities that have always been home.

Our Impact: From clearing debris and restoring power, building infrastructure, and providing food and supplies, we stand with the people of Puerto Rico across the diaspora.

Rebuilding a School and Community Center. This year, we are also focused on a very special project in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico. We are helping to rebuild Proyecto Marcos Sanchez, a school that will be transformed into a community center. This center will serve as a hub for educational programs, cultural activities, and support services for local residents, giving them to rebuild their lives and continue fighting for a better future. Our work here is vital, as it will provide a safe and accessible space for the community for years to come.
