Join us for an in-person workshop focused on safe, responsible egg production right here in Detroit.Led by MSU instructor Francine Vercese Czerniawski, Ph.D., this session will walk you through best practices for producing, handling, and processing eggs from backyard chicken flocks in an urban environment. Whether you’re collecting eggs from your own hens, considering starting a flock, or sourcing from neighbors, this workshop will help you understand how to do it safely and confidently.
This session focuses on egg-laying flocks and the unique considerations of raising chickens within city limits. There will be limited discussion of meat production, as it relates to animal ordinance regulations in the city of Detroit.
