The Backwaters Ducky Derby was created to help build momentum for downtown and community revitalization efforts in Prairie du Chien. Proceeds will support projects that help improve the look, energy, and experience of our community, including beautification efforts, future downtown improvements, small community projects, events, and initiatives that make Prairie du Chien a place people want to visit, support, and invest in.

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS:
When you “adopt” a duck, you receive a raffle ticket number. That number is assigned to a physical rubber duck that will be launched into the Mississippi River backwaters from the Washington Street Bridge on race day.
The ducks will float downstream toward the Blackhawk Bridge finish line while volunteer boat and kayak crews help retrieve stray ducks, and collect every duck afterward.
🏆 PRIZES:
🥇 First Duck Across the Finish Line: $500
🥈 Second Place: $250
🥉 Third Place: $100
🐤 Last Place Prize: Because sometimes it pays to finish last!
🎟 ADOPT A DUCK:
• Single Duck: $5
• Quack Pack (6 Ducks): $25
• Flock (25 Ducks): $100
• Adopt 4 Ducks and receive a BONUS entry for a scenic airplane ride for two!
👀 WHERE TO WATCH:
Watch the finish near Blackhawk Bridge from:
• Either riverbank near the bridge
• Limited viewing directly from the bridge
• The Backwaters Bar & Grill balcony and viewing area
This is a great family-friendly event and a fun spectacle for all ages. There’s just something hilarious and entertaining about watching hundreds of rubber ducks race down the river.
🚒 MAKE A FULL DAY OF IT!
Earlier that day, the Prairie du Chien Fire Department will be hosting Family Fun Day on St. Feriole Island with kids activities, entertainment, food, and fun throughout the day. Spend the day enjoying the festivities, then head to the Ducky Derby to finish things off with a splash.
