Have you thought about trying to hunt out west, but aren't sure where to start? Backcountry Hunters & Anglers is here to help!Every year, hunters from the midwest travel to the Mountain West in search of adventure, memories, trophies, whether meat or bone. But getting started can be a challenge. From applying for tags and scouting to conditioning and gear, traveling for a western hunt can be a massive undertaking that takes months to prepare.
Join BHA on March 3rd, 2026 at the Sitka Gear Store in Maple Grove, MN for Backcountry Skills: Western Hunting 101. BHA Field Operations Coordinator Aaron Hebeisen has over a decade of hunting across the West in many big game pursuits. He will guide you through his experience applying for tags, pre-season training, finding lodging or camping, e-scouting and scouting, travel, food prep, and gear.
Our goal is to prepare you for your western adventure of a lifetime and give you the best chance for success in new trophy country.
The store will be closed to the public to offer our guests an exclusive shopping experience with gear experts on hand to get you outfitted for the hunt! Attendees will also enjoy free food and drinks during the workshop, as well as exclusive discounts and giveaways from our partners.
