PRESENTATION:
KATIE GRAHAM (@k8e_graham) - Katie is a local Calgary-born adventurer, passionate cave and canyon explorer, a fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographic Society, and President of the Alberta Speleological Society. Among her accomplishments, Katie completed the first descent of Waffl Canyon on Mount Robson - 1200 m descent and 51 waterfall rappels. Katie's caving has led to discoveries of antibiotic resistant microbes in new passages, collecting sulfur eating microbes from volcanic steam vents in glaciers, backcountry skiing, pack rafting, and ice climbing to access remote places, and trips around the world meeting wonderful people. She has explored Canada's deepest caves, including Bisaro Anima which is currently at a depth of 683 metres and a length of 6.4 km, and she continues to push and explore them deeper.
Katie will be sharing a screening of SUBTERRANEAN, Banff Mountain Film Fest's 2023 adventure film winner, featuring Katie and her obsession with the Bisaro Anima Cave in the Rocky Mountains near Fernie. After the screening, Katie will be available for audience questions as well as moderated Q&A session with one of her adventure colleagues.
