Join Freire Charter School Wilmington for an exciting Back to School Community Day filled with fun, connection, and valuable resources for the whole family!

This free community event brings together local organizations dedicated to supporting Wilmington families with engaging activities, resources and opportunities to connect as we begin the new school year.

• Food distribution for Delaware residents by The Food Bank of Delaware (food packages offered on a first-come-first-served basis)

• Next Up Academy Girls Basketball scrimmage games
• School tours for interested families

Food Distribution Details:

The Food Bank of Delaware’s mobile pantry travels to underserved communities throughout the state, bringing healthy, shelf-stable, and perishable foods to those in need. The truck travels to communities throughout the state to serve families directly near their homes. It comes filled with nonperishables, fresh produce, dairy, beverages and other refrigerated and frozen items, as well as personal products when available.

What's Needed to Receive a Food Package?

Simply bring proof of Delaware residency and register with the Food Bank of Delaware's system when you arrive on-site at our school. Our team will be there to welcome you, assist with registration, and help load food items into your car!

Please bring ONE form of proof of Delaware residency. Proof may be shown in digital or physical form. Acceptable documents include:

• Valid drivers’ license
• State-issued ID
• Bill with your name and address
• Car registration
• Voter registraiton card
• Delaware SNAP card

Food packages will be distributed while supplies last.

What's Needed to Receive a Book Bag?

When you arrive, please check in at Freire Charter School Wilmington’s Fitness Room for book bag pick-up. Book bags will be distributed one per student, while supplies last. A parent, guardian, foster parent, kinship caregiver, caseworker, or authorized representative may pick up a book bag on a student’s behalf if the student is unable to attend. Please see an event staff member if you need assistance.
