Throughout history, women have used all sorts of accoutrements to enhance their feminine charms.
In our efforts to meet social expectations we have cinched our waists, enhanced our busts and covered every so-called blemish with goodness-knows-what!
But the work of a woman is often done in private.
Behind closed doors, the devices that allow us to shape ourselves into idealised visions of femininity are hidden away, used in secrecy lest the world know that we simply are not born with it.
For the ‘Lady Bits’ Back of House Tour, the Collections and Curatorial team at Te Manawa have selected some of their favourite feminine products from our collection.
Expect to discover some curious contraptions for controlling the female body, as well as items that aren’t so different from what we use today.

Spaces for this very special tour are limited, and bookings are required to secure your spot.
The tour will take approximately 1 hour, with 2x tour times available:
Tour 1: 12pm - 1pm
Tour 2: 1pm - 2pm
