A Free Outdoor Cello Concert at Galveston Island State Park
Sunday, January 3, 2027 | 11:00 AM
Galveston Island State Park | Galveston, TX
What happens when a musician spends five days listening to an island before performing?
Join Wild Notes Foundation for Bach on the Beach, a special outdoor concert featuring Johann Sebastian Bach's Suite No. 1 in G Major for Solo Cello, performed by Dr. Mandy Guilfoyle on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico.
This concert marks the conclusion of Wild Notes Foundation's inaugural Galveston Island Field Residency, a five-day artistic research project exploring the question: What does an island sound like?
During the residency, Dr. Guilfoyle will spend time exploring Galveston's beaches, wetlands, wildlife, and coastal soundscapes through listening walks, observation, and musical reflection. These experiences will inform her interpretation of Bach's music, creating an opportunity to hear a familiar masterpiece in a new way.
Throughout the performance, she'll share discoveries from her time on the island and invite audiences to listen to the music alongside the sounds of the surrounding environment.
Whether you're a classical music enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply looking for a peaceful morning by the water, we hope you'll join us!
