Our Nutrition Study Day brings together clinicians, dietitians, pharmacists, nurses, and nutrition specialists from across the country for a collaborative, forward-thinking exploration of medical nutrition practice. Designed to support knowledge sharing and cross regional collaboration, this event provides a platform for likeminded professionals to connect, learn, and discuss the latest developments within parenteral nutrition. As a longstanding partner in medical nutrition, B. Braun is committed to sharing expertise and supporting hospitals in delivering nutritional care. This study day reflects that commitment through high-quality educational content and practical insights




FACULTY MEMBERS

Gabis Chana | Lead Pharmacist | Birmingham Women's and Childrens NHS Foundation Trust

Gabi worked as a specialist paediatric pharmacist at Birmingham Children’s Hospital since 2015, and a specialist parenteral nutrition (PN) pharmacist since 2018. Graduating from Aston University, she was always driven to be a paediatric clinical pharmacist. Now working as part of an expert multi-disciplinary team, she has helped to develop, expand and lead the Ph*rm*cy PN service, which also serves a large cohort of home PN patients. As an independent prescriber, she works closely with gastroenterology, nutritional care and dietetic teams, and is dedicated to sharing expertise and promoting Ph*rm*cy services.


Simon Gabe | Consultant in Gastroenterology & Intestinal Rehabilitation | St Mark's Hospital, London

Dr Gabe is a consultant in gastroenterology & intestinal rehabilitation at St Mark's Hospital and chair of the NHS National Reference Centre for Severe Intestinal Failure at St Mark’s. He is a past President of BAPEN and he co-founded the National Adult Small Intestinal Transplant (NASIT) Forum in the UK. He currently co-chairs a HPN Clinical Advice and Management Group on home parenteral nutrition for NHS England.


Emma Noble | Clinical lead Dietitian for adult intestinal failure | Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust

Emma is an experienced dietitian who has had a special interest in parenteral nutrition support throughout her 20-year career as a dietitian in the NHS. She has worked in Leeds Nutrition team providing parenteral nutrition support to both inpatients and patients requiring home parenteral support since 2014 and has been the Clinical Lead Dietitian for Adult Intestinal Failure at Leeds since 2019. Emma completed her MSc in 2021 evaluating the micronutrient status of patients receiving home parenteral support and became a supplementary non-medical prescriber in 2023.


Emily Shepherd | Nutrition Support Team Surgical Dietitian | Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Emily completed the MSc Dietetics and Leadership Degree Apprenticeship with Coventry University in 2024. She is now a specialist dietitian working in peritoneal malignancy and surgery, providing expert nutritional care for patients throughout complex treatment pathways.


Melanie Toon | Senior Specialist Dietitian | University Hospital of Leicester NHS Trust

Melanie has extensive experience in the management of parenteral nutrition (PN) and intestinal failure, becoming a supplementary non-medical prescriber in 2018. She combines her clinical role within Leicester’s Intestinal Failure Team with research and has recently completed her PhD evaluating parenteral requirements, intakes and influences on home PN prescribing in adults with chronic intestinal failure. Locally she has led on projects to increase inpatient use of multi-chamber PN across the trust. Previously had a lead role in a feasibility study investigating home jejunostomy feeding after oesophago-gastric cancer surgery.

Her national role includes being a Dietetic representative on the NHS England HPN Clinical Advisory & Management Group (2019-), the Stakeholders Group (2015-2022) and in 2010 she was the dietetic expert advisor for the NCEPOD review of national adult PN Services. In 2021 she was awarded an IBEX from the British Dietetic Association.
