Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band Album:
With songs like "Strawberry Fields Forever," "With a Little Help from My Friends," and "When I"m Sixty-Four," the Sgt Peppers album was considered an early concept album that advanced the roles of sound composition, extended form, psychedelic imagery, and record sleeves used in popular music. Over the years, every track became easily identifiable as a true Beatles classic. From the title track to its final song, "A Day in the Life," this album follows a story when listened to in its entirety.
Magical Mystery Tour album:
This soundtrack album had critical and commercial success, despite widespread media criticism of the film. In the UK, it topped the EPs chart and peaked at number 2 on UK singles chart behind "Hello, Goodbye". The album topped Billboard's Top LPs listing for eight weeks and was nominated for the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1969. With multiple chart topping tracks "I am the Walrus," "Blue Jay Way," and "The Fool on the Hill," the Beatles were able to continue their story telling success that started with Sgt Peppers. Another great album to listen to in its entirety.
The Rooftop concert:
Their impromptu concert on January 30th, 1969 atop their Apple Corps headquarters in central London was actually planned to reintroduce the Beatles as live performers. Joined by keyboardist Billy Preston, the band performed many songs, including multiple versions of "Get Back," "Don't Let Me Down," and "I've Got a Feeling." The 42 minute set continued until the Metropolitan Police arrived and ordered them to reduce the volume. Ironically, it was the final public performance of their career.
