** What is the Axis Syllabus? **
The Axis Syllabus is an educational perspective and reference system for human movement that is assembled, revised and tested by a growing international network of dancing researchers and was initiated in the mid 90's by the American dancer, teacher, author and choreographer Frey Faust. This study group mainly focuses on applying the information, ideas of the Axis Syllabus to contemporary dance.

** A session will typically include **
Zooming in on a particular body part, system, or concept. We study anatomy, bio-mechanics and physics and get a felt sense of the anatomy or idea via hands-on somatic exploration.
At some point a movement motif or phrase is suggested and we take some time to learn the proposed pattern together.
We enjoy the phrase and then use what we have explored as a jumping off point for improvisation and research.

**A personal note from Marcus**
To me, studying the Axis Syllabus is beneficial for many reasons. On a human animal level, I will say that I keep coming back to class because, well, it feels good. Not only is moving with other animals satisfying, fun and perhaps even healing at a basic level but the movement principles and phrases themselves feel good in my body. AS prioritizes efficiency and sustainability both in terms of recycling kinetic energy and caring for the body overtime by moving in respect to the structure and mechanics of the bones and tissues.
As a dancer and contact improviser, AS has given me a critical understanding of the mechanics of efficient movement. This continues to generate fruitful research and new possibilities in my dance. Additionally, I feel empowered with the ability to deconstruct and learn new movements in any context.
