About this Event
Event Photos

Come join a group of like-minded women to bag 2 Peak District Ethels and learn some interesting history along the way. Enjoying the peace of the remote Axe Edge Moor and Cheeks Hill, we're unlikely to meet anyone else on this 10km hike! With some hidden gems to discover along the way, Emily will ensure you get the most out of the day. If we're lucky, we'll spot some moorland wildlife, too.

*Please note, this walk does have some uphill sections on uneven moorland terrain so a good level of fitness and hill-walking experience is required. If this one isn't for you, please check out my other walks and look for an 'Easy' level walk :)

Distance: 10km/6 miles

Ascent: 180m/600ft

Level of difficulty: Easy/Moderate/Challenging - hill-walking experience and a good level of fitness will make this one much more enjoyable. Some uphills and uneven terrain in parts.

Who will be your guide?

I’m Emily, founder of Peak Outdoor Coaching, and I’m a Hill and Moorland Leader based in Glossop at the edge of the Dark Peak. I’ve always been outdoorsy since being a young girl but hiking became a real obsession in 2019 when I started to go solo. I aim to inspire other women to learn the many benefits of exploring in the outdoors and I’m passionate about sharing my love for adventure with you!

(The photo above is me demonstrating Cheeks Hill!)

Follow our adventures at @peakoutdoorcoaching on Instagram and Facebook.

Transport:

We'll be meeting at Derbyshire Bridge car park, Buxton, SK17 6TT (Google Maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/URDKFj1awgzQ8ejz7), which is free to park (correct at time of parking. Some free car parks in the area have recently had payment machines installed.)

I can offer lifts from Glossop or anywhere between Glossop and Buxton for those using public transport.

We will meet at 9.45 ready to set off at 10am.

What to bring:

  • Hiking boots
  • Snacks and lunch
  • Hot drink (optional but a flask is a nice treat on a cold day!)
  • Rucksack
  • Water (at least 1L)
  • Waterproofs and warm layers
  • Hat and gloves
  • Walking Poles (optional)
  • A small first aid kit with any personal Medic*tion

Terrain:

Mostly trails and footpaths, some uneven moorlandterrain. Some hills to climb. There are stiles on this walk.

Toilets:

There are toilets at the car park, but none along the way. 'Wild wee' spots will be pointed out along the way!

Safety:

The whole point of the walk is to be an enjoyable and memorable experience for everyone so we will keep to a steady pace to suit the group. It's about taking in the views, learning about the history and geology of the area and being in nature, not about rushing to the finish line. Having said that, you are responsible for your own health and safety and with all outdoor activities, there can be risks involved. If you are unsure as to whether you are fit to come on this walk, please either consult your doctor or let me know your concerns. Please inform me of any medical conditions prior to the walk.

I am a qualified Hill and Moorland Leader and I am level 3 Outdoor First Aid trained so I will be on hand in case of an emergency.

Dogs:

Dogs are welcome to come along but there can sometimes be livestock, so they will need to be on a close lead for some of the time.

Refund Policy:

No refunds or swaps to other walks. If you can no longer make the walk, feel free to sell your ticket on but please let me know if you do so.

And FINALLY:

This walk will be going ahead whatever the weather, unless I deem the conditions dangerous so be ready to embrace the good old British weather! If I do have to cancel the walk for safety reasons, I will suggest one more date for the walk to be rearranged.
