About this Event

Awkward Anonymous - Social Skills Support Group

This is not your typical group. You can open up like a support group, and play fun games. Welcome to your new socially savvy support group of fellow neurodivergent people. Whether it’s professional, personal, or about relationships, you can feel supported here

Who this is for:
Anyone who wants to build real confidence in social settings: work events, dating, friend groups, small talk, or whatever your specific sticking point is. You don't need to explain your whole life story to participate. You just need to show up and be willing to work on something concrete. If the male loneliness crisis has you down or you feel it's tough to make friends as a nuerodivergent person then you're in the right place.

Process:
We’ll open up about some social situations we wish had gone better.
We can have productive discussions.
We will play fun social games.
Most importantly the community helps each other become socially savvy.

Rules:

This is a group to hold space for anxiety but also have FUN. Everyone wants to feel safe.

Implicit social rules, expectations, and subtext are made explicit here. Just say “Subtext?”

Ask for consent before giving feedback.

Be tactful, not BRUTALLY honest.

Some of us talk a little too much, too fast, or too loud. There's no shame, but we may point it out.

We love specific feedback. "Try this instead" beats "that was weird."

“No” is a complete sentence. No explanation needed.

We plan to make everyone here feel comfortable and relaxed with no expectations.

We obey Sadie Hawkins rules. Women are empowered to make the first move if they see fit. A man cannot ask for a woman's phone number, contact information, for friendship, to talk more and can't ask out on a date. If you don’t understand why a group of people that may struggle with social anxiety or awkwardness needs a safe space with rules like this, ask someone and they’ll explain it to you.

No one is perfect, that includes you. If you’ve caused confusion or pain, then you apologize for it to return to a safe connection. There is no safety when someone isn’t willing to be accountable and atone for their mistakes, intentional or not. This is one of the safest spaces for neurodivergent people to make mistakes, but you should feel safer knowing that people can be quickly kicked out for bad behavior. The difference is taking accountability and making improvements.

Hosts:

The event is hosted by Austin Zeli. I’m a social skills coach. I teach people to build the skills from the ground up and move them into social excellence. I mainly do this through 1on1 coaching, group coaching, and I set people up on practice dates with relationship coaches. There we have high impact insight into what social cues and social expectations need further learning.
